This is a whole message you need to take on the road. For those of us who’ve “been there and done that” it will resonate to tears and affirm their chuckin the deuces. And for those who are still in it or recently out, trying to wrap their heads around “what just happened”, it will illuminate and free them from feeling shame or guilt for “dishonoring” their leadership by bowing out. Bless up to those of us who are the proverbial farmers, faithfully tilling the ground, putting hands to the plow and doing the good work etched out for us in the church and in our communities without the fluff, smoke machines, and disco lights; just the good Gospel.

(girl, you bring out my writer)

Hey Ashley - 42 year old Aussie Christian gal here. I can’t do evangelical western Christian churches anymore because of how they put marriage and family on a pedestal and the appalling way they treat and overlook single women. I love what you wrote. It was beautifully written too. I didn’t know that Ghandi quote but I love it.

Thank you for this I have been trying to process all this devastating news! Grieving over what just happened especially as an overcomer myself. I think it hit me harder bc he was the chancellor of TKU southlake and I really liked his teachings.

I’ve been trying not to quit on my calling and stay focused at school this week but it’s been a hard emotional week. I know the staff at TKU and many of the students are just wondering what the heck just happened?!? And how to we keep staying encouraged as a community l. Thank you for sharing your insight Ashley! Love your honesty!

So well written. While I don't have the first hand experience you do, I've observed so much of this. Now living in the south after 40 plus years of life in California, it's interesting to see "church-folk's" responses to us...a remarried couple with a large age difference, no children together and my husband being tattooed. Some assume my husband is new to faith (nope he's been a Jesus lover since youth), or I'm barren (nope, we choose not to have "more" children after analyzing the emotional and financial cost of launching his). We are fortunate to live in a military community which brings texture and diversity...but 2 years in we're still doing a bit of church shopping because I can't do fake and I won't tolerate the BS!!
